Baptism & Reaffirmation of Baptism

On July 22, following the 11:15am worship service, we celebrated three baptisms and four reaffirmations of baptisms at Lake Murray. Lawrence Ray, Chris Johnson, and Alita Jolley were baptized and Marie A. Johnson, Connie Johnson, Will Morse and Victoria Shealy reaffirmed their baptism. It is exciting to see how God is working and moving in the lives of the people at Wightman!

To the Ends of the Earth

I recently visited the Holy Land and stood on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea at a place called Caesarea Maritima. As I looked out over the waves coming in, the sea looked endless.

Bible Studies

It’s not too early to start thinking of fall education opportunities. We will begin our Tuesday studies on September 11. The Pastor’s Bible Study will be on the book of Daniel. Missy Roach will be leading a “Meditative Bible Study” class and our Stephen Ministry will be hosting a Grief Share class for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one. On Wednesday evenings, Cassie Rainwater will be teaching a women’s study on the book of Romans. Make…

Annual Conference Report

On June 3-6, the South Carolina Annual Conference met in Greenville. Pastor Brian attended with our delegates, Kirk Atwood and Leonard May. The Conference approved the budget for the next year, commissioned or ordained, including Gryff Carosiello who served at Wightman as an intern. There were also six different ministry projects that took place including beds for the homeless and packaging health kits for disaster response. While the Conference contained a lot of reports and resolutions to discuss, the theme…

Snacks

Our Administrative Council and Worship Committee have been looking at provision of snacks during our Contemporary worship service. We know there are many different opinions on this, but starting July 1 we are going to stop providing snacks in this service. We will still be serving coffee, juice and water, but wanted to inform par- ents so they can plan accordingly. Thank you for your understanding.

What If We Were Permanently Shipwrecked?

The last week of June was filled with 5 exciting nights of Vacation Bible School. People of all ages gathered at Wight- man to learn the truth that “Jesus rescues.” There was a lot of laughter, fun, singing, worship, learning and renewed com- mitment to follow Jesus. Vacation Bible School was a great week. I have often wondered why every week at church can’t be like Vacation Bible School. I don’t mean we should have activities every night, but VBS…

Baptism by Immersion

For anyone who has been wanting to be baptized by immersion, Wightman will hold a service at the lake on July 22 following our second worship service. There will also be a service of reaffirmation of baptism for those who are interested. All are invited to attend. Please contact Pastor Brian if you want to participate in the service.

God-Sightings and Vacation Bible School

Cassie and I get excited when Vacation Bible School rolls around. Yes, it is a busy week and it’s not just the hours put in the week of VBS, it’s the hours, days, and weeks prior to VBS that can wear you out. But when you see what happens in the lives of the children and the life of our church it makes it all worthwhile. This year’s theme is “Shipwrecked,” and each day will focus on how Jesus rescues…
