Our Beliefs
The beliefs of Wightman United Methodist Church are based on the following passages of scripture:
Matthew 6:33: "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
Matthew 28:19-22: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age."
Isaiah 61:1-3: "The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me: He has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release to the prisoners; comfort to all who mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion—to give them garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. They will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to display his glory."
John 10:11, 14: (Jesus said), "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me."
Vision
Through prayer, God has called Wightman United Methodist Church in Prosperity, S.C., to be a Christ-centered congregation open to all people, committed to winning souls to Christ and showing compassion to those who need God's love and grace. Just as Jesus is the Good Shepherd who seeks his lost sheep, our church will proclaim His Word by nurturing, ministering, and witnessing.
