Need Volunteers for 09-23-18

Hello church family,  The evangelism team is needing volunteers to bake chocolate cookies for the upcoming worship service on September 23rd. There can be a variety of the type of cookie you would like to bake but it should include chocolate (for the sermon series about chocolate Sunday’s). You can bake here at the church in the morning or at home the evening before to ensure freshnessJ. However, I do encourage baking at the church for several reasons: fellowship, activity…

Epworth Work Day September 9

Epworth Children’s Home has been a child-caring institution of the United Methodist Church in South Carolina since 1895. The children living at Epworth Children’s Home in Columbia look to us for support. Your gift on annual work day can shape the character and lives of the children who call Epworth home. Please give generously on September 9.

Restoration: Turning the Old into New

Often on the internet I read about classic cars being “found.” Recently at Shelby Mustang prototype was found deteriorating in a field in Texas. There were only two prototypes made and the other one, which has been completely restored is now valued at over one million dollars. The one they recently found needs a lot of work. The front panels are missing, the interior will need to be redone and there’s no telling how much work it will take to…

Baptism & Reaffirmation of Baptism

On July 22, following the 11:15am worship service, we celebrated three baptisms and four reaffirmations of baptisms at Lake Murray. Lawrence Ray, Chris Johnson, and Alita Jolley were baptized and Marie A. Johnson, Connie Johnson, Will Morse and Victoria Shealy reaffirmed their baptism. It is exciting to see how God is working and moving in the lives of the people at Wightman!

To the Ends of the Earth

I recently visited the Holy Land and stood on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea at a place called Caesarea Maritima. As I looked out over the waves coming in, the sea looked endless.

Bible Studies

It’s not too early to start thinking of fall education opportunities. We will begin our Tuesday studies on September 11. The Pastor’s Bible Study will be on the book of Daniel. Missy Roach will be leading a “Meditative Bible Study” class and our Stephen Ministry will be hosting a Grief Share class for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Annual Conference Report

On June 3-6, the South Carolina Annual Conference met in Greenville. Pastor Brian attended with our delegates, Kirk Atwood and Leonard May. The Conference approved the budget for the next year, commissioned or ordained, including Gryff Carosiello who served at Wightman as an intern. There were also six different ministry projects that took place including beds for the homeless and packaging health kits for disaster response. While the Conference contained a lot of reports and resolutions to discuss, the theme…

Snacks

Our Administrative Council and Worship Committee have been looking at provision of snacks during our Contemporary worship service. We know there are many different opinions on this, but starting July 1 we are going to stop providing snacks in this service. We will still be serving coffee, juice and water, but wanted to inform par- ents so they can plan accordingly. Thank you for your understanding.
